TIMBER
All hardwood is carefully selected and obtained from controlled stocks. We usually use meranti, specifically majau for all frame and roof materials. We can, however, manufacture in any commercially available timber.
FRAME JOINTS
Frames and doors are jointed using traditional joinery skills to obtain maximum strength and stability. The joints are multi-tenoned, cramped and glued.
SILL JOINS
Sill joints are a positive join with two proprietary sill bolts at each join, whilst head plates are joined with one proprietary bolt. Sills can be joined in straight lengths at any random position. This join may fall anywhere in this length, and is not relative to the module sizes. The longest guaranteed length of continuous sill is 3.6 metres externally. The shortest joined length is 1.0m. Alignment of sills on opposite sides of a conservatory cannot be guaranteed.
SILL HORNS
100mm horns are added to all door sizes. No horns are allowed at the abutment to the host wall unless specifically requested.
100mm horns are added to all windows, doors, combined windows, flag windows, etc, unless otherwise requested.
200mm horns are added to all bow or bay windows unless otherwise requested.
CORNER POSTS
Solid corner posts are used at the external and internal corners of all conservatories, and of all bow and bay windows.
CONSERVATORY FRAMES
Walls can be manufactured to virtually any shape or design. Any combination of mullions and transoms can be incorporated. Opening windows and doors can be fitted in almost any position.
JOINS BETWEEN FRAMES
Joins between all conservatory frames comprise of a dowell design.
Flag windows usually comprise separate frames using a dowell for joining and location. Similarly a storey frame over a door frame would usually be two separate frames, again joined with a dowell.
OPENING LIGHTS
All windows are hung on stainless steel friction hinges, subject to size limitations when storm-proof hinges may be used.
DUMMY OPENERS
Where dummy openers are requested they are supplied loose with packers to enable them to be fixed in position on site.
CONSERVATORY WINDOW HANDLES
All window handles in a conservatory are right-hand handles, ie: they point to the right when viewed internally, unless otherwise requested.
PLAIN PANELS
These comprise water and boil-proof external grade mahogany faced ply, stained and sprayed to match the frame colour.
MOULDED PANELS
These comprise water and boil-proof external grade mahogany faced ply, with mahogany mouldings, and stained to match the frame colour.
RAISED AND FIELDED PANELS
Raised and fielded panels comprise solid timber with machined edges. These can only be supplied up to 240mm wide.
WINDOW BOARDS
MDF (medium density fibreboard) hardwood, or Duraboard, internal window boards (often known as internal sills) can be supplied. The standard size is 220mm x 25mm including tongue. Hardwood window-boards used in conservatories are not guaranteed against twisting or warping due to the high temperatures generated, and means of fixing.
TRIANGULAR FRAMES IN CONSERVATORIES
These apply mainly to lean-to and gabled Georgian conservatories. They have mullions that are in line with the wall module joins below the frame. Cartwheel and sunburst designs can be in solid wood or as internal bars in the glass, astragal bars or lead. Triangle gable frames are normally supplied in one section, unless otherwise requested, or if there are size limitations.
CONSERVATORY ROOFS
Conservatory roofs are virtually maintenance-free from the fascia board upwards on the outside. The rafter caps are aluminium, the ridge cover is GRP, and the crest and finial are powder-coated aluminium, all in either brown, black or white. All hardwood rafters are champhered to give a clean finish, and roofs are all hilly assembled before leaving the factory, and joining positions clearly marked. Lean-to rafters are usually halved into a wall plate, whilst Georgian and Victorian styles are fixed to a hardwood ridge. Roofs can be made to any shape or specification, and with a minimum roof pitch for lean-to conservatories of 5 degrees, and a minimum pitch for Edwardians, Victorians and Georgian conservatories of 15 degrees.
POLYCARBONATE ROOF GLAZING
Roofs can be glazed with polycarbonate. All sheets are cut to size, blown out, and taped prior to delivery.
GLASS ROOF GLAZING
Roofs can be glazed with toughened sealed units. We will then either deliver the glass with the conservatory or, at our discretion and depending on the complexity of the job, have the glass sizes checked in the factory before ordering. The delivery of glass may then follow the main delivery by a few days. You will be advised before delivery if this is the case.
STEEL TIE BARS
Plastic-coated steel tie bars are included wherever required for polycarbonate roofs. All glass roofs have tie bars.
HARDWOOD TIE BARS
Hardwood tie bars may be used instead of steel tie bars, at our discretion. This may also be linked with structural posts between the frames. This will be determined at final design stage.
ROOF OPENERS
Hardwood roof openers are hinged on brass hinges, opened with a brass opener, operated with a cranked winding handle, and can be fitted to roofs down to a 15 degree pitch.
PVCu roof openers are formed with aluminium reinforced PVCu profile, and fit into the roof panels. They are available in brown or white, opened with a brass opener, operated with a cranked winding handle, and can be fitted to roofs down to a 5 degree pitch.
GUTTERING
Guttering is supplied as standard in a square-line style with round down-pipes, in either brown, white or black.
BOX GUTTERS
Box gutters are 200mm wide nominally, and are constructed from 18mm hardwood. They are fibre-glassed in the factory, with joining required onsite.
STANDARD SPRAY FINISH
All frames are dipped in a micro-porous stain and preservative, then fully factory finished with two coats of micro-porous top coat.
STANDARD PAINT FINISH
All frames are dipped in a white base coat and preservative with blocking agent, and fully factory finished with two coats of micro-porous top coat.
COLOUR CODING
If required, the roof accessories can be sprayed in the same colour paint as the paint finish on the conservatory for an additional cost. Roof accessories include aluminium pressure caps, aluminium ~F’ profiles GRP, crest, finial gutter and down-pipe.

As part of our process of continual development and improvement, we reserve the right to change any specifications without prior notice.
