1. Do I need Planning Permission?
Planning permission is normally required and our agent will obtain this approval on your behalf. Our applications are rarely rejected as we take care to consult with the planning officer before submitting our application. If your house is listed or in a conservation area, our excellent longstanding relationship with Local Authorities and Planning Offices in the South East greatly assists us in obtaining the best solutions in the many delicate areas of planning.
2. What impact will my building have on the environment?
At Room Outside® we utilize the beauty of managed hardwood to limit the impact on the environment without compromising the longevity of our buildings. In many cases, a new garden room improves the insulation on what is often a very poorly insulated area of the house.
3. Will my building be high maintenance?
Our range of PVCu and Exclusive Alumunium & Ash products provide low maintenance options whilst still providing a range of stylish designs. A general clean once a year using our Groom Outside service is generally all it will need. However, if you choose a Hardwood option then you will need to assume that it will need repainting or varnishing approximately every 5 years. However, all roofs are virtually maintenance free with powder coated aluminium glazing caps.
4. Will it be cold in winter and hot in summer?
Exclusively to Room Outside® we can specify our revolutionary New Generation Glass designed specifically for the British climate with its excellent Solar Control, Thermal Insulation Properties, together with dual action self-cleaning glass.
5. Who will be carrying out the works at my house?
All of our installers come with the very best references and are contractually bound to work to our stringent high standards. Throughout the development our highly trained project manager overseas the vital stages of the build.
6. What if something goes wrong in the future?
Each of our conservatories has the benefit of our comprehensive 5 year structural and double glazed unit guarantee (subject to satisfactory maintenance). Outside Installations undertake to guarantee the installation and construction (when applicable) for a period of 10 years.
7. Can I buy additional windows to match the style of my new extension?
Yes we can supply matching windows and doors to match your new Conservatory, simply asks our designer to provide an estimate with you proposal.

9. Can Room Outside® do everything from the initial design to the final coat of paint?
Yes – Room Outside® offers a bespoke design service and a “one stop shop” approach to its buildings. You can have total peace of mind that once you have placed an order with us we will run the whole project. You will have a dedicated Project Manager that will ensure the smooth running of your development with the minimum of disruption to you.
10. Will my building complement the existing design of my house?
All of our Conservatories, Orangeries, Garden Rooms and Glass Extensions are individually designed. We have an in-house designer who oversees all designs and ensures they exactly fit your requirements and the style of house perfectly.
11. What area does Room Outside® cover?
Originally Room Outside® was a national company with examples built in St. Andrews in Scotland and Royal Yacht Squadron on Isle of Wight. More recently we tend to cover the South and South East of England.
12. How long has Room Outside® been trading?
The first Room Outside® was built in 1973 and we have been at our current location in Quarry Lane since 1994. We are a well established company that has built its reputation on fine bespoke design and the highest quality service. The majority of our clients have come to us as a recommendation from their friends, families or colleagues.
