About Our Conservatories

What Makes a Room Outside Conservatory Different?

A conservatory is a glazed extension with a predominantly glass roof and walls, designed to bring natural light into your home while connecting your living space with your garden. Every Room Outside project is individually designed around your home’s architecture, your lifestyle and your budget.

We work in timber, aluminium and premium UPVC, and offer New Generation Glass, an advanced glazing option designed to help manage solar heat, natural light and winter comfort. If you are comparing extension types, you can also explore our glass box extensions and orangeries.

Room Outside has been designing and installing conservatories across the South of England since 1973. That experience shapes everything from planning advice to material specification and long-term aftercare.

What Sets Us Apart

Custom Conservatory Styles: uPVC, Timber, Aluminium & Glass

Four things premium homeowners consistently value: considered design, better glazing, clearer guarantees and proper planning support.

Individual Design

Every conservatory starts with a home visit and a blank sheet. We design around your architecture, proportions and how you want to use the space.

New Generation Glass

Designed to help block up to 80% of solar heat gain while maintaining natural light, helping your conservatory stay more comfortable across the year.

Insured Guarantees

Depending on product and location, up to a 10-year structural guarantee may apply, with separate warranties for glazing, roofing and components.

Planning Expertise

We assess Permitted Development, planning applications where required and Building Regulations routes so there are fewer surprises later.

Which Conservatory Style Suits Your Home?

The right style depends on your property, how you plan to use the space and the visual effect you want to achieve. Here is a practical guide to help you choose.

Victorian-style conservatory attached to a house, featuring multi-faceted bay front, decorative cresting, and a landscaped garden area. From £28,000

Victorian Conservatory

Choose this if your home has period character and you want the conservatory to look like it has always been part of the building. The multi-faceted bay front adds architectural presence and creates an elegant, light-filled sitting room or entertaining space.

  • Multi-faceted bay front with decorative cresting
  • Suits period homes, townhouses and character properties
  • Ideal as a sitting room, reading room or entertaining space
Victorian-style conservatory with multi-faceted bay front, brick base, and glass roof, designed for period character homes, ideal for creating elegant sitting or entertaining spaces. From £25,000

Edwardian Conservatory

The most practical choice if usable floor space is a priority. The rectangular footprint means furniture, dining tables and sofas can be placed easily against straight walls, which is harder with curved bay designs.

  • Rectangular layout for easy furniture placement
  • Versatile – suits most property ages and styles
  • Particularly effective as a kitchen-diner or family living space
Edwardian conservatory with a rectangular layout, featuring bi-fold doors, modern furniture, and a clean aesthetic, suitable for family living or dining spaces. From £25,000

Lean-To Conservatory

The right choice when height is restricted. If you have a bungalow, single-storey rear extension or low eaves, a lean-to design works within those constraints without compromising light or space.

  • Low-profile roof – ideal where height is limited
  • Clean, contemporary aesthetic
  • Suits bungalows, height-restricted plots and modern homes
P-Shape conservatory with a clean, contemporary design, featuring a low-profile roof, surrounded by a garden and patio area, ideal for creating distinct living spaces. From £45,000

P-Shape Conservatory

Consider this when you want two connected but distinct living areas within a single extension, for example a kitchen-dining space that flows into a separate sitting area or garden room.

  • Creates two distinct zones in one extension
  • Needs a wider rear elevation to work well
  • Suits larger homes where a single room would feel too modest
P-Shape conservatory attached to a modern home, featuring large glass panels, a decorative roof, and surrounded by a lush garden with potted plants and outdoor seating. From £50,000

T-Shape Conservatory

A design for properties where the conservatory needs to match the scale and ambition of the existing building. The central projection creates strong architectural presence from the garden.

  • Central projection for visual impact and multi-aspect light
  • Proportionally suited to larger, substantial properties
  • Often used as a grand living space or garden entertaining room

Timber, Aluminium or Premium UPVC?

The material you choose affects how your conservatory looks, how it performs and what maintenance it will need over the years.

Hardwood Timber

Timber is the natural choice for homeowners who want warmth, depth and craftsmanship. It suits Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and country homes where the conservatory needs to feel like a considered part of the original architecture.

We use hardwoods selected for stability and long-term durability. Timber can be stained, painted or left natural. It does need periodic repainting or re-oiling, but well-maintained hardwood can last 50 years or more.

Natural warmth and depthExcellent thermal insulationBest for period and character homes

Aluminium

Aluminium frames are slim, strong and highly durable, which means more glass area and cleaner sightlines. This makes aluminium a natural fit for modern, contemporary and minimalist homes where the views should dominate.

Its strength also helps with larger openings, wide sliding doors and floor-to-ceiling panels. Thermally broken profiles, powder-coated finishes and very low maintenance make aluminium a long-term option.

Slimmest frames, most glassVirtually zero maintenanceBest for contemporary homes

Premium UPVC

Modern premium UPVC has moved well beyond basic white frames. Today’s profiles offer strong thermal efficiency, reliable colour retention and refined finishes including woodgrain and flush sash options.

The defining advantage is easy ownership: no repainting, no oiling and no special treatment. It is a strong practical choice when you want good performance with minimal maintenance.

Effectively zero maintenanceStrong thermal efficiency25-35 year expected lifespan

New Generation Glass: the year-round comfort option

All conservatories can be specified with New Generation Glass, an advanced glazing option designed to help block up to 80% of solar heat gain while maintaining high light transmission. The practical aim is a room that stays noticeably cooler in summer and warmer in winter, with better comfort than older conservatory glazing.
